Fact sheets on biological containment from genetically modified plants and trees through chloroplast transformation, controllable flowering and controllable fertility
In the Transcontainer project a series of different strategies are implemented and tested with a view to biological containment of transgene flow from genetically modified plants and trees. These strategies vary from chloroplast transformation to several (combined) techniques that aim at controllable fertility or controllable flowering. In order to explain each biological containment strategy in more detail, three fact sheets have been drafted. Each fact sheet describes the technical objectives of the Transcontainer research partners, the general background of the biological containment strategy and the plants and/or trees involved, the state of the art, the way Transcontainer will advance the state of the art, and the biosafety and socio-economic impact assessments. A list of scientific literature is provided at the end of each fact sheet.
The following fact sheets can be accessed and downloaded:
1) Chloroplast Transformation
2) Controllable Flowering
